Raise your hand if you love cinnamon rolls! I am going to assume that everyone’s hand is raised, because cinnamon rolls are delicious and I refuse to accept that there are humans on this planet that think otherwise. However, as much as we love a good ol’ cinnamon roll, we wanted to try something a little different, so we decided to try a recipe for strawberry rolls! They were a success! You could really fill them with any kind of fruit/jam you wanted, but we happen to love strawberries, so we used those. But you could get really creative with these if you wanted.  In our opinion, these rolls are perfect for breakfast or dessert.  So give them a try!

Ingredients:

For the dough

  • 1 package of active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all purpose flour

For the filling

  • 1 cup chopped strawberries
  • 3/4 cup strawberry Jam
  • 1/3 cup softened butter

For the icing

  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Directions:

1) Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk in a large bowl (Milk should be warm but not hot).

2) Add sugar, salt, eggs and flour to the bowl of a mixer and mix well.

3) Add milk and yeast mixture and mix well with the dough hook.

4) Place dough into an oiled bowl, cover and let rise for 1-1.5 hours until the dough has doubled in size.

5) Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until it is 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. It should also be 1/4 inch thick.

6) Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 9 X 13 baking dish.

7) To make filling combine sugar, butter, strawberries and jam in a bowl and mix well.

8) Spread the mixture evenly over the dough.

9) Roll the dough carefully from the long edge.

10) Cut the roll into 1 1/2 inch slices.

11) Place rolls in baking dish and cover with a damp towel for 30 minute so they can rise some more.

12) Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

13) To make icing beat all icing ingredients together well with an electric mixer.

14) Spread icing over rolls once they are done baking.
