Hello, people! Today we are going to talk about novelty cakes. Who doesn’t love a good theme cake? When we first began our baking journey back when we were young little kiddos, we decided to experiment with cakes and cake decorating. Cake decorating can be extremely stressful and frustrating. Especially when you are trying something that you’ve never done before. Needless to say, it has been a learning experience. We cannot tell you how many times we have had a magnificent plan for a cake, only to discover during the production process that it is not going to work. OR, spending hours and hours on a beautiful cake only to have one of your cats sneak into the room and eat an entire half of it. (This has happened an embarrassing amount of times). Cake decorating takes practice and a lot of patience, but it is so much fun. Our first attempt at a theme cake was years ago for our dad’s birthday.

Here it is, in all its glory- cracked fondant and all. Apparently, we were feeling extra ambitious because we made and worked with fondant for the first time ever. Clearly, this cake is a dry mess (Our fondant skills have improved tremendously, we promise!) But, seeing as how this was our first attempt, I think it’s pretty darn good! This cake made us want to keep working with cakes and get better at it. Over the years we have made so many cakes that we have lost count. It was actually difficult for me to find pictures of a lot of them. However, I was able to dig up a few from over the years and we wanted to share them! So, we hope you like them!
