We’ve all been there. You find the perfect recipe. You gather all the ingredients you need. You follow the instructions perfectly. Then…it doesn’t work out. You end up with a mess that looks nothing like the picture. OR, even worse, it doesn’t taste good. Somewhere, something went wrong. This has happened to us time and time again. Its the most disappointing/frustrating thing. This is the story of the time I tried to make a chocolate turtle cake. Here is the picture of what the cake was supposed to look like.

Beautiful right?! The perfect centerpiece for a table. So delicious looking. MMMM. You wouldn’t think it would be that difficult to recreate. You make the cakes. You stack the cakes. You drizzle some good stuff on top. You cut it and eat it. Well my baking friends. Wrong-o. Brace yourselves for an image of what my cake turned out looking like..

Now I will admit. Things could have been a lot worse. It isn’t the ugliest cake I’ve ever made. But it did not look as glorious as I wanted it to. The main problem was that it just started sliding. The ganache was so slippery and the cakes weren’t completely level (level your cakes people!). Furthermore, the caramel frosting on top was not thick enough to stay upright.

The story isn’t all sad. The cake actually tasted really really good. Like really good. It just wasn’t something I wanted to display for others to see.

The moral of the story here is that baking adventures don’t always work out how you planned. BUT, just because it doesn’t look good, doesn’t mean it won’t taste good. So just eat it!
